Portable Printers:

They are usually lightweight and easy to carry around. Sometimes, portable printers carry the option of using a battery instead of drawing power from the computer. There are two main types of portable printers: thermal printers and thermal transfer printers.

Inkjet Printers:

These are the most common types of printers in the consumer market, and they are great for printing on a wide range of paper types and sizes, and are seemingly endless varieties in between. Ink Jet printers tend to be the quietest of all the consumer printers, have a very quick warm-up time and are relatively cheap to use.

Laser Printers:

Laser printers produce more quality images, operate more efficiently in terms of cost per page, print faster, and the toner cartridges are more expensive compared to Inkjet printers. The toners are dry, so when you print out your papers, be rest assured that it won’t smudge. Laser printers produce sharp black-and-white text, but are not well suited for printing photos.

Dot Matrix Printers:

They are also referred to as Impact Matrix Printers and are one of the oldest computers still utilized in homes and businesses due to rugged durability and low cost of use. Dot Matrix computers are what you would refer to as the ever-loyal printer despite its old fashion design.

Photo Printers:

Photo printers are designed to produce high quality photos that are equal or higher than those you would normally get at a professional printing store at a lower or comparable cost. One major benefit of a photo printer is that it is much more convenient and void of the bother of making a trip to the printing store or waiting for their arrival in the mail box.

All-In-One Printers:

Also referred to as Multifunction printers, All-In-one printers are inkjet or laser printers that, in addition to printing, can scan, copy, and in many cases, send and receive faxes. Buying an All-In-One printer saves you the stress of buying several machines as well as cost-effective. Also, with the All-In-One Printer, you can connect directly to the web so they can print web pages, email documents or documents stored in the cloud.

Duplex printing allows the printing of a sheet of paper on both sides and saves you extra cost of papers. Printers that provide duplex printing will often use a reversing automatic document feeder which allows for duplex scanning and then prints double-sided pages without you having to turn the paper over and refeed it into the machine.

Wi-Fi is a wireless network that is a must on almost any class of printer these days. By connecting over a wireless network, your printer is available to other computers and devices with the appropriate printer driver. The Wi-Fi comes in handy when you want to share your printer between multiple computers.

Printing Speed:

Waiting for something to print cannot only be exhausting but can also reduce your productivity as well. One major thing to take into consideration when looking out for a printer is the printing speed. The Pages per minute (PPM) also referred to as Copies per unit (CPM) determines how many pages your printer can push out which means that the higher the number of pages, the faster the printer can print your document.

Pict Bridge:

A printer with Pict Bridge can connect directly from a digital camera, and some models can print and download photos right from your camera's memory card. With Pict Bridge, you can print photos directly from a digital camera without needing to upload them to your PC or laptop first. Also, if you have a need to print photos on your inkjet, a model with a Pict Bridge port provides convenience.

There are multiple ways to send documents to your printer. Apps like Apple Air Print and Google Cloud Print offer cloud-based printing services that give you the freedom to print from just about anywhere right from your phone – you can give permission to anyone who choose to make prints on your home or office printer. Some printers have Bluetooth and/or infrared wireless connectivity which allows you to print from a laptop or phone without even getting on your Wi-Fi network. Furthermore, a personal printer will always have a USB connection for use with one computer.
